You say you have plans to build a AC version so you can cool down your bedroom. An alternative would to buy a 12 volt plug adapter from Wal-Mart for $20. Plug it into the wall then plug the 12 volt into the adapter, and problem solved.
Add an extra egg and 2 tablespoons of flour. That'll help.

Take it to some place that is familiar with lead acid batteries, they dispose of sulphuric acid, lead, and spent batteries all the time. They have the proper EPA and environmental issues handled by law.
The packaging will last at least a few years, but do dispose of it in a timely manner as it is holding a very powerful ACID. In time it does eat through.
Take it to one of these outlets, be careful not to get it on the interior of the car or it will make a hole similar to a cigarette burn.

sounds to me like you gotta know somebody… try the whole six degrees of separation thing and see what pops up… I am learning more and more that most of the really cool things are held secretly and you have to claw your way into them… try asking one of the people in the box seats that you want… ask them how they got theirs and if maybe they would be interested in helping you get yours. May be worth another trip to the Hollywood Bowl. Go when Belle and Sebastian are playing there!
