every time i straighten my hair with a blow dryer it looks poofy?

i use straightening creams, the triangle-shaped diffuser, i put in a heat protector, i do everything! and yet, it still looks poofy.When my stylist did it with just the hair dryer, products and diffuser it was all nice and shiny and not poofy. And please don't tell me to use a flat iron because that's not what i'm trying to do.
